Artwork by Tony Trigg
Tony was born and raised in San Antonio, Texas. He received most of his formal art training while in high school but he is mostly self taught. He feels that you cannot be taught to be an artist, you are born to become an artist. You have to struggle and develop yourself, think things through on your own. This struggle is the key to success.
Tony’s work mostly consists of pen and ink sketches utilizing the cross-hatch method, which he sometimes add color with arcylics, watercolors, oils, or digitally using different computer applications. His artwork portrays the sensitivity and character of his subjects, giving a realistic but aesthetically abstract effect. He adds color to stimulate the viewer’s imagination. He often includes quotations in his drawings that divulge the emotional source for that piece. Tony’s artwork is influenced by reading Black History, paying keen attention to his everyday surroundings and listening. His subjects usually portray the black community, calling attention to past and/or present situations that appear to be excused or forgotten.
